Breathtaking Assateague Island!

Assateague Island is one of very few places still unspoiled along the East coast. Its such a scenic place that feeds the soul with breathtaking beauty any season of the year and has something to please every person one. It is a natural barrier island with forests, marshlands, beautiful endless sand beaches and miles of water around. The beaches on the island are free of any trash. You can walk for miles on this wilderness beach, barely seeing another person. The name Assateague comes from a Native American word thought to mean the marshy place across or a running stream between. Sometimes the wild ponies run down the beach. The wildlife is abundant and the birdwatching is some of the best on the east coast. The ponies often wander on the beaches, roadways, campgrounds and marsh areas of the island. This Island is a vital resting and feeding area for a large variety of birds. Assateague birdwatchers enjoy the island’s wealth of over 300 species of migratory and resident birds. One way to explore the island is walking and other is cycling. Even though the riding is on paved bike paths, this is a magical place to bike, for those who enjoy biking and observing wildlife. You can join a popular marine eco-tour which offers a chance to see more of the refuge and wildlife by boat. An eco voyage is often the best way to encounter peregrine falcons, sandpipers, egrets, osprey, terns, gulls, waterfowl and wild ponies. Besides natural beauty and wildlife, the island offers many recreational opportunities such as four wheel driving on the beach, seashell collecting along sands, swimming, surf fishing, beach hiking and much more! Welcome to Hard Rock park: Where rock comes to play

If you are a big fan of hard metal or rock, here’s a great opportunity for you. The Myrtle Beach (South Carolina) will soon be home to the Hard Rock theme park. This park is scheduled to open up in spring of 2008. The people who designed the park, rightly coined the phrase ‘Where rock comes to play’. Most of the amazing rides throughout the park are based on heavy metal bands as well as rock stars. This is the first Rock n roll theme park ever created. The star attraction of the place is the Led Zeppelin ride that will skyrocket to about 150 feet in the air and take you through six heart pounding inversions. I think this it’s insane, but fun. Imitating the Mount Rushmore concept, the park will have a giant sand sculpture called Mount Rockmore. This gigantic sculpture will be a tribute to legends of the rock like Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Elvis Presley, and John Lennon. This is a great idea and I think the fact that this will be carved out of sand makes the Mount Rockmore sculpture special. Construction of the park proves one thing: the existence of a strong bond between the rock singers and their fans. The park will be spread over a 140 acres area and will have 40 rides. Tickets will be priced at $46 for all ages. This indeed is a place where rock comes to play. So hop in and buckle up to get whole lotta love from Led Zeppelin and the other gods of rock at the Hard Rock Park. Image Credits: Hardrockpark, Typepad

Mill Ends Park: The Smallest Park in the World!

If unusual and unique places around the world make you go hum, then you just can’t miss the world’s smallest park in Portland. Named Mill Ends Park, it’s a 24 inch circular park that is just 2 feet in diameter and a much-beloved city landmark. The park was created on St. Patrick’s Day, 1948 and since that time, many curious contributions have been made to the park. The park has flying saucers, miniature Ferris wheels, statues and a tiny swimming pool. The park is so small that you just can’t stroll, believe me, just take one step and you’re out of the park. Make sure, you don’t miss to take your camera along! Images [1], [2] Source: Spluch

Celebrities paid big bucks to heat up Las Vegas clubs

Think what would be your instant reaction if someone offers you a large sum just to party! The obvious reaction would be, yes. But we people are not lucky enough like the world-famous celebrities(Paris Hilton and Britney Spears). Often celebrities make appearances and walk the red carpet as part of the deal for coming to a nightclub receiving all sorts of goodies and a big paycheck. For nightclub operators, it has become the standard way of getting their establishments known. Clubs and casinos are building relationships with the celebrities to add buzz and they are willing to pay the celebrities thousands of dollars. The operators of the famous night-clubs like PURE refute that that they pay huge sum to the celebrities for their presence in their club parties. The recent example is Luxor’s LAX nightclub grand-opening party hosted by Britney Spears. Her presence added buzz to Las Vegas making it sizzling place and she was given a big paycheck. The club owner is expecting good revenue this year. I personally believe there’s nothing wrong in giving big bucks to these world-famous celebrities, if their only presence can add buzz to the nightclubs and help getting good revenue. Nestle Chocolate Museum: Modern day architectural marvel!

In our naive minds, the chocolate museums are somewhat square and brown in color. Right! And I’m sure, you won’t believe me if I say the origami shaped structure you see in the picture above is a chocolate museum. Yes, this is a new Nestle Chocolate Museum in Mexico City. Designed by Michel Rojkind of Rojkind Arquitectos, the project is characterized by a playful, faceted geometry and inexpensive materials. The exterior is clad in uneven metal and is painted in red color with the white interior that generates a nice contrast. The museum serves as a public space where visitors can learn about and witness the production of Nestle chocolate. The volume of the building expands and opens up to accommodate key display and theater spaces and also allows for direct access to an adjacent Nestle factory. Completed in just 75 days from start to finish, including design and construction, the museum really seems appealing. I don’t think any chocolate lover will even think of missing it while on Mexico trip. Check out some more pictures of the museum. Images Source: Intelligent Architecture

‘Castle to the Sun’: Volunteer-driven marvel by Ed Jarrett

If you stop by Point Sebago Resort in Casco this weekend, don’t miss a volunteer-driven marvel! Named Castle to the Sun, it is a record-breaking sand castle Ed Jarrett that is built as fund-raiser for terminally ill children and their families of neighboring camp (Camp Sunshine). Said to be 32 feet high, this castle is Ed Jarrett’s attempt to break his own record which he set in 2003 by building the 29 feet castle in Falmouth. Made from 40 dump-truck loads of sand, the castle is a result of more than 3,500 hours of volunteer labor. Jarrett is hoping to make the Guiness Book of World Records. He’s also raising money for Camp Sunshine, through the sale of souvenir sand buckets and bricks. To promote Castle to the Sun, Jarrett also built two smaller sand castles this summer at Hancock Lumber in Windham and at Kittery Trading Post. Image Credit Source: Spluch

Experience West Virginia rail tour-pride

If you are in the United States and looking for something fun to do, come down to West Virginia. The rail tours are the best way to explore parts of West Virginia. Inside the Monongahela national forest, the Shay locomotive takes pride in making it’s turns. As the sun goes down behind the horizon, the temperature starts to drop as well. With the whistle blown and the steam shooting skywards, the Shay starts to make it’s way up the windy railroad. This locomotive uses about four and a half ton coal, which many agree adds to the uniqueness of the Cass Scenic Railroad. The best thing about this kind of railroad ride is the warmth of the crew and others. A lot of times the crew will invite the passengers to take a sneak peak into the maintenance shop. A visit to the railroad shop would give you an idea of how things were about 50 or 60 years ago.A Potomac eagle is just one of the several birds that you get to see during the rail ride. The Cass Scenic railroad goes through a state park, which is about 11 miles long and 50 feet wide. The ride has a slow but a steady pace at 7 miles per hour. This is probably the slowest way to explore the park. An unique thing about this ride is that the crew members are mostly volunteers. This is done to keep the costs down. Overall, this is the best way to explore the national park if you don’t want to travel fast! Image Credit: Railpictures

Mummified Inca maiden goes on display in Argentina Museum

The well-preserved mummy of an Inca maiden (la Doncella) that archaeologists discovered in 1999 has gone on display for the first time in a museum in Salta, Argentina. The chamber in which the mummy is displayed is filled with cold air that recreates the sub-freezing conditions in which she was found. Seated with her legs bent and her arms resting on her stomach, the Maiden’s remains are still adorned with a grey shawl and bone and metal ornaments. The remains of 15-year-old girl along with a six-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy were found in an icy pit at a height of 6,700m (22,000ft) on Mount Llullaillaco, a volcano in north-west Argentina. The other two children are being studied and not on display. Though the exhibition has angered several local groups who campaigned to stop the mummy from going on display, yet for many La Doncella mummy has become the center of attraction. Since, the mummy is displayed, the museum has witnessed large number of people queuing up to see the serene gaze etched on her face hundreds of years ago when she froze to death in the Andes.
