Known as the quietest place of Maine it’s a small island that has beautiful cliffs and woods, spectacular sunsets over the bay and a charming village as few of the attractions. Monhegan is an island unique in its geographical diversity. There are high cliffs on the eastern side that offer the breathtaking views of sea and surf. The central part of the island provides miles of trails including Cathedral Woods which are a must-see. From the western side of the island, one can see a beautiful harbor and nearby Manana Island. The island is also known as a premier birding location for the many rare and unusual birds. Image Credit The inns, art galleries, the historical Monhegan Lighthouse and Monhegan Historical and Cultural Museum are places worth a visit. You must pay a visit to the lobster cove, if you wish to explore Monhegan’s early history as a fishing village. It is one of the popular bird watching destinations in Maine. The island attracts visitors from all over the world who want to paint, photograph, look for migrating birds, rare wildflowers, sea life and who just want to escape for a few hours or days from their busy lives. So, if you are the one who wish to spend some moments in seclusion with just nature accompanying you, then pay a visit to this breathtaking island.

There’s simply no place on earth like Las Vegas. It’s the Entertainment Capital of the World. Everyone wants to get around this popular city but for most of us, budget remains the hurdle. Don’t be surprised if I say that it is possible to save on your trip to Vegas. There are many ways that can help you stay within budget and maybe even save a bit of money. All you need is a bit of homework. Look for the travel deals on Internet. Big Empire is a website that offers many tips that can help you plan your trip. Suggestions run from the vacation packages, best bet for hotel, best time to plan your trip to cheap eats. Vegas Freebie is a site that sorts free attractions by locations and category. The site also lists hotels with free lounges. Fortunately, there are many free things to do in Vegas. There is a site that offers a list of free things to do e.g. dueling pianos, exotic bird shows, magic shows, family-friendly shows and much more. Ethel’s Chocolate Lounge, just fifteen minutes from the Las Vegas Strip offers free tours of its candy factory and of its four-acre botanical cactus garden. Make sure, you check out different travel dates. It’s not necessary that you have to go on vacation when everyone else may be in Vegas but instead book a nice room when the rooms are reasonably priced. This is a great way to stretch your traveling budget while still arriving and staying in style. These websites are sure to help you in choosing the best bet that will not pick on your pockets. A bit of homework and proper planning will make your trip an enjoyable one!

Upon visiting Mt.Rainier National Park the first thing that sort of puzzled me were the tracks. The railroad tracks were ancient and they were making their way through the wilderness. However, I didn’t see any trains coming through. But, things are about to change. The Spirit of Washington is back on the track again! The red and white streamliner rolled out as Mayor Bill Barsma whacked the golden spike right into the track. The train will run between Tacoma and Mt.Rainier. This cool looking train reminds me of the toy train in Darjeeling, India. Although, there’s an ocean of difference between the two.The train will halt at Lake Kapowsin, fuel up and return back to Tacoma. Historical facts: This will basically be a dinner train. The Temple family purchased the Washington railroad back in October 14,1986. When you own a railroad, it’s not just a business. It’s like owning history and culture. Lot of stories revolve around the tracks. Previously, the ‘City of Seattle’, ‘Columbia winery’ were the only cars used. Later on, ‘Mt.Rainier’ was added to the group. The Spirit of Washington have been moved from Renton to Tacoma. The total time taken for the train is 3.5 hours. Today, the Spirit of Washington departs very conveniently from Tacoma’s Freighthouse Square. I think this should bring life back to the ancient railroad tracks of Mt.Rainier National Park once again. Image credits: Spiritofwashington, Vtourist

Ohio Craft Museum, the only museum in the Midwest devoted to collecting and exhibiting fine craft exclusively is the place where you can witness the amazing art works by various renowned artists. A rotating schedule of exhibitions features glass and ceramics, fiber art, fine metal jewelry, art furniture and other objects. The museum showcases the work by artists such as Thierry Martenon of France and Betty Scarpino of Indiana. Also, there are hand-woven wall art, rugs and throws. Glass works of Glass Eye Studio, a Seattle-based company are remarkable. Various versions of the world are captured within the glass globes. An Environmental Series which includes hurricanes, tornados, volcanoes and ocean creatures and Celestial Series (the stars, planets and sun images) are unusual and totally gaze-worthy. You’ll also find work by such nationally known artists as Josh Simpson, Mark Matthews and Cathy Richardson. In addition, the museum houses the Craft Research Library and stages educational workshops and events for all ages. Ohio Craft Museum is a place where you’ll find works of artists who work in styles ranging from traditional twists and swirls to unusual imagery and patterning in a wide array of colors. Believe me, your visit to the museum will prove to be worthwhile! Scroll down to see more art works at the museum. There are 3,922 steps that lead up the Koolau Pali to the 2800-foot summit of Puu Keahiakahoe overlooking Haiku Valley. Ever since the steps are built, they have undergone several replacements and the trial is forbidden by the Honolulu city officials for various reasons. This prohibition makes the peak off-limit to both tourists and residents. Recently, these steps have been replaced at a cost of $875,000 and had to be reopened but the plans to reopen the trial has been complicated because of the frequent complaints by the neighbors at the base of the hike. The residents complain of being bombarded by trespassing tourists, trash and noise. Moreover, handful of access points to the stairs lie on land owned by different entities such as state Department of Hawaiian Home Lands, state Department of Land and Natural Resources and Hawaii’s largest private landowner, Kamehameha Schools. Around $50,000 is spent annually for private security to guard the Haiku Stairs 12 hours a day, seven days a week, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The trial is officially closed still hikers from around the world from trudge through a rain forest and elude private security guards in order to get to the top Koolau Mountain Range. There are many people who think that it’s a public resource and a few people shouldn’t have a right to prevent the public from making responsible use of the stairs and anticipate seeing the Stairway to Heaven reopened soon.

With the Vermont trials becoming wheelchair accessible, now it is possible for people like Deborah Lisi-Baker to witness the wilderness of Vermont’s Green Mountains. The Camel’s Hump View Trail, built in the early 1990s now has fewer barriers and people with disabilities will be able to enjoy all that life has to offer. Tightly packed gravel helps in holding up well under a wheelchair. This trial is a part of nationwide push to make more of the great outdoors accessible to people with disabilities. Mount Independence in Orwell, Killington are among other wheelchair-accessible trail covered under this project. Development of such projects has been slow in Vermont but one additional wheelchair-accessible trail has been opened earlier this summer on Mount Independence in Orwell and another is due to open in Killington this fall. The Baldwin Trail on Mount Independence made archaeological sites and vistas of the Lake Champlain Valley wheelchair-accessible for the first time. Thundering Brook project is one another step to make trails more accessible. With the Vermont trials becoming wheelchair accessible and other outdoors in the list, disabled people can also look forward to enjoy the gifts of life. Source: USA Today

If you’re heading to Napa Valley, it would be well worth your while to visit Daryl Sattui’s new $30 million, 100000-square-foot Castello di Amorosa. It’s a 13th-century-style Tuscan castle that sits on Diamond Mountain, just south of Calistoga. Recently opened Castello di Amorosa valley, this castle is fast becoming the most lavish tourist draw. The castle has stunning interior but wine is the focus. Wines produced here are sold under the Castello de Amorosa label. There are 107 rooms on eight levels, four above ground and four below. Also, there is a Knight’s Room decorated with lively frescos and a torture chamber with gruesome replica instruments and one very gruesome, non-replica, 300-year-old Iron Maiden. Image Credit The roughhewn walls and ceilings of the castle are made of hundred year old bricks that are imported from Europe. The stones use are also not simple, they were hand-carved by the stonecutters in the traditional methods. There are replicas of medieval Italian paintings that also add to the attractiveness of the castle. The castle has secret passageways, a church, a kitchen, an apartment for the nobles, stables and an outdoor oven for baking bread. There is a room in the castle that is dedicated to Daryl Sattui’s grandfather, Vittorio. The room features dusty old bottles that are from the original winery. St. Helena Highway, 2-1/2 miles south of Calistoga, California. Image Credit for the first picture Source: CNN
