How can a land of 3.950 million people be far from festivals and holiday celebrations? Talking about the beautiful country of Puerto Rico, which represents a unique blend of cultural and racial mix, it certainly seems impossible.

Every year Puerto Rico celebrates two eminent people in the month of July. July 17 is observed as the Munoz Rivera Day in honor of Luis Munoz Rivera (1859-1916), a patriot and journalist. While, July 27 is celebrated as the Barbosa Day, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Jose Celso Barbosa. Barbosa was a political leader, a physician and a sociologist who was implemental in opening Puerto Rico’s health insurance system.
Since these two days are public holidays, there are certain things you can do to make it even more specific if you happen to stay in Puerto Rico during this time. Paying a visit to Barbosa’s home in Bayamon is one general advice.
If you are the kind who is more into fun and frolicing, then there are two more July festivals in offing which is synonymous to boisterouness.
The week long Puerto Rico Salsa Congress from July 22-28 brings international and national dancers onto a common platform who present their talents and give instructions on the same. Who knows by the end of this fun filled festival you’ll be good enough to pick up some salsa steps?
The high spirit continues till the end of July as people celebrate Puerto Rico’s native African and Spanish cultural heritage - St. Jame’s Festival.
