With more than 260 species of birds and 1,000 acres of forest, salt marsh, sandy beaches, pines woodland, freshwater pond, the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, is a jewel of Cape Cod. Travelers can do outing along the five miles long paths that pass through the territory. The memorable journey comes to an end at Nature Center’s green architecture and a beautiful butterfly and hummingbird garden.

A variety of educational programs, special events, and classes, for children and adults, including walks, and much, much more are offered for your gratification at the Sanctuary.

The habitat offers a wind range of wildlife, especially songbirds and shorebirds which can be seen from bird watcher’s corner. If you are interested to get the instant happenings of sanctuary you can become a member of Massachusetts Audubon, a Society that organizes all the programs. birds4378_62

Flora and fauna
Trees:
Beach plum, cattail, sweet pepper-bush, winterberry, bayberry, bearberry, sea lavender, rosa rugosa, broom, crowberry, huckleberry and are among the many plants that enhance the charm of landscape.

Migrating birds:

Yellowlegs, godwits, plovers, warblers, sparrows, orioles, gulls, jaegers, nuthatches, wrens, mergansers, hawks and egrets.

Animals and other species:
Deer and fox may turtles, frogs and fiddler crabs.

Visiting Hours:
Sanctuary remains open round the year for visitors from 8 am to sun set. Admission is free for the members Massachusetts Audubon. Nonmembers are to pay $3/adult, $2/child.
