World’s longest skating rink, a scenic waterway, a haven for boaters, a man-made wonder are the few words that can easily help anyone make out as to which place is being talked about. Yes, it’s the Rideau Canal! Also, known as Rideau Waterway, the canal connects Ottawa and Kingston enchanting visitors with its tranquil beauty.
It’s the only canal from the North America’s canal-building era that is still operating along its original line with most of its original structures intact. Deemed both as scenic and technological wonder, it strings together more than 60 lakes like pearls via rivers.
A paradise for boaters from spring until autumn, the canal offers more than 1,000 kilometers of lake shores and river banks where boaters can pull their canoes or kayaks. The waterway becomes home to the ‘world’s longest skating rink’ in frosty weather. While walkers, joggers, cyclists and in-line skaters enjoy the recreational pathways alongside. Leisure walks along the canal’s shady paths are quite alluring.
