After a long wait of six years to pave Diamond Bar Road which leads into Grand Canyon West, the Hualapai Tribe has finally got the green light. Hualapai Tribe made the announcement on Thursday that the lawsuits which were filed by a neighboring landowner, Nigel Turner in the year 2001 have been dismissed and that the pavement of the road would begin as early as October.
The massive horseshoe-shaped, Grand Canyon Skywalk which has become a great tourist attraction since it opened increased the automobile traffic on Diamond Bar Road.
Temporary improvements were made to make the road more accessible. The road was widened, smoothed and had gravel added to reduce dust. But pavement of the road was a great necessity. To settle the lawsuit and clear the way for road construction the Hualapai recently paid $750,000.
It is estimated that the new paving project will cost $20 million. The Hualapai Tribe saved $12 million of federal grant money specifically for the project and rest $8 million will be generated from the future revenues generated at Grand Canyon West and the Skywalk.
