Monticello Dam is notable for its classic, uncontrolled morning glory spillway with a rate of 48,400 cubic feet per second (1370 m³/s) and a diameter at the lip of 72 feet (22 m). Its Glory hole is an engineering masterpiece, which leaves visitors awestruck. The Glory hole is a non- regulated spillway, which is located about 200 feet behind the dam. It allows drainage when the lake level is high with a rate of 48,400 cubic feet per second (1370 m³/s) and a diameter at the lip of 72 feet (22 m).
