George Herbert Walker Bush was the 41st President of the United States, serving from 1989 to 1993. As President, Bush is perhaps best known internationally for leading the United Nations coalition in the 1990-1991 Gulf War. A visit to the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum will be very informative and great for the kids.
Like the other Presidential Libraries, the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum is also a research institution, totally integrated into the academic environment of Texas A&M University.
Artifacts highlight stages of his life and presidency, A restored 1944 World War II Avenger Torpedo Bomber is mounted from the ceiling, representing the same type of plane Bush flew during the war.
Dominating the Cold War exhibit is a 6,500-pound section of the Berlin Wall, given to Bush in 1993 by the German people.
The Gate of Kuwait
Is a 100-year-old door made of teak with domed nails and intricate carvings. The door was a gift from the Kuwaiti people after the Gulf War. Framing the door are plates bearing the names of the soldiers who died in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Starting February 22nd, 2007, the museum has a theme lined up about the lives of the African American Cavalry and Infantry Regiments. So you can plan your visit here around that time.
