I’m sure you all know about the much-hyped tourist attraction at Grand Canyon. Yes I’m talking about the Skywalk which was opened to public just two days back and now, a veteran BASE jumper Chris Pope is likely to take a jump from the Skywalk, which is suspended 4,000 feet above the Colorado River.
According to Pope the Skywalk makes an appealing target for the BASE jumpers. He points out that prior the potential fly he would have to take permission of the Hualapai Indians who own the sacred ground and operate the attraction on their reservation.
But the Skywalk publicist Amada Hill says that Pope won’t be granted the permission. She further added that the Skywalk was build to allow people to see the natural beauty there and not to be used as a platform for the extreme sports of any kind.
Hill is of view that the tight security at Skywalk will help keep check on such BASE jumpers. There are future security measures which include gathering personal possessions from the guests prior to their entering the skywalk.
Pope says that the laws that prohibit the activities of BASE jumpers force them to use stealth in their planning.
So who, if anyone, will be the first to leap off the Grand Canyon Skywalk? We’ll just have to wait and see.
