If you stop by Point Sebago Resort in Casco this weekend, don’t miss a volunteer-driven marvel! Named Castle to the Sun, it is a record-breaking sand castle Ed Jarrett that is built as fund-raiser for terminally ill children and their families of neighboring camp (Camp Sunshine). Said to be 32 feet high, this castle is Ed Jarrett’s attempt to break his own record which he set in 2003 by building the 29 feet castle in Falmouth. Made from 40 dump-truck loads of sand, the castle is a result of more than 3,500 hours of volunteer labor. Jarrett is hoping to make the Guiness Book of World Records. He’s also raising money for Camp Sunshine, through the sale of souvenir sand buckets and bricks. To promote Castle to the Sun, Jarrett also built two smaller sand castles this summer at Hancock Lumber in Windham and at Kittery Trading Post. Image Credit Source: Spluch
